Malalai Joya: My Hero
She uses an assumed name — that of an Afghan woman who led the charge that routed a British brigade — because she is pursued by the assassins of the current gangster government of Afghanistan, who, by the way, greatly appreciate your tax dollars and hope you will continue to send them by the billions.
She came to tell us that the murderous warlords that we are paying billions to keep in power are just as bad as the homicidal fanatics that we drove out, and they’re ruining her country.

Joya wants the US to get out of Afghanistan. Then, she says, the forces of democracy can take on the warlords and the Taliban. It won’t be an easy fight, she admits, but, she says, freedom cannot be imposed by an occupying army. It has to be won.
The US has approximately 100,000 troops in Afghanistan, and we pay about one million dollars a year per soldier. You do the math. Can we afford to just pull out? What could we possibly find to do with all that money?
